Overview
After waking up, jump in the outdoor bath or enjoy an invigorating shower while admiring the rolling views – a truly unique way to start the day. The cabin is positioned at the end of a winding track, half a mile from any other building, yet a short walk will take you to Presteigne. The small town is a food-lovers’ paradise with local delis, lively independent shops and farmers markets brimming with fresh produce. Bring all your goodies back to cook outdoors, perhaps with a bottle of organic wine. The cabin is thoughtfully constructed out of materials less likely to cause damage to the environment: salvaged and sustainably sourced timber from a friend’s sawmill, wool and recycled-newspaper insulation and eco-friendly paints. You’ll float seamlessly from inside to out, whatever the weather is doing – the covered outdoor deck houses a great kitchen with loads of gear for firepit cooking – and on cooler days the underfloor heating, radiators and wood-burning stove will keep you ultra-cosy.
Spot deer and rabbits right from the comfort of the swinging chair on the veranda, with a glass in hand. Overhead you’ll see roaming red kites and a family of Goshawks if you’re lucky. Wander through the woodland, visit Daphne’s in town for great pizza and ice cream, swim in the river Lugg then sup a pint of local ale from one of the many good pubs nearby, including the Royal George at Lingen. Serious walkers will be joining Offa’s Dyke, cider drinkers can have a relaxed meal at Dunkerton Mill and bring home a few bottles of the real stuff. Or you could spend most of your time at the cabin, your own haven, nestled amongst the beautifully curated furnishings with a good book; that one you haven’t had time to get to for months or one spontaneously plucked from the shelves of the cabin. Finish your day in the sumptuously comfortable beds with only the hoots from the local owls to lull you to sleep.

Meet Becks & Bill
Becks and Bill met on the school playground over 20 years ago, having a passion for the arts and surfing they decided to move to Falmouth in Cornwall where they spent a very happy few years developing their skills in Textile Design and Tree Surgery respectively. They moved back to Herefordshire where they started Rustic Campers in 2008 living in and converting camper-vans with their rustic wooden style. They developed their tiny home expertise into glamping, starting their sister company Crown & Canopy with their close friend in 2013. They built two shepherds huts and yurts and started their first sites in a woodland in South Hereford. They ran this for 5 years before the lease on the rented came to an end.
They managed to find and purchase the site; a wonderful patch of meadow and woodland off some friends. They started their little family and managed to gain planning permission for the site over the last three years. Ash, now almost three, has been very much part of the whole process from the Parish Council meetings whilst trying to obtaining the permission to helping on-site during the build over the last year. They are passionate about sustainable building, creating off-grid retreats for everyone to enjoy. The site build has uncovered many things, but the presence of rock and stone has been a major factor. They have used, moved and tried to crack through a lot of the stone around the site and have decided to build a 'Cairn' in memory of the build, this lead nicely into the naming and by complete chance, their lurcher is also named Carn. Rebecca and Bill are very excited to open their little piece of sanctuary to the public, hoping they can switch off from the everyday stresses, soak up the views and relax.
Wildlife & Environment
The land is part of a wider parcel of woodland called 'The Frith', it was clear-felled in the 1940s for timber for the warships. The woodland is traditionally managed, encouraging many types of wildlife; deer are often seen, friendly rabbits will explore the meadow, roaming Kites, owls and a family of Goss Hawks may make an appearance if you're lucky.

Absolutely perfect relaxing weekend away. Amazing location and an opportunity to totally relax and have a break from day to day busy lives. Comfortable and warm with everything could need.

We had the best 3 nights staying at The Carn. We didn’t end up leaving the cabin during our stay at all as we absolutely loved it there. The views were stunning and it was incredibly peaceful. Didn’t see or hear anyone else the whole time we were there.
21/10/2024Ali
Amazing space! Amazing vibe! Such a lovely location
27/09/2024Louis
Our stay at The Carn was wonderful! A well equipped & fairly spacious cabin with the most incredible outside terrace that can be enjoyed whatever the weather. Our toddler was delighted with how much she could explore & shuffled up & down the steps to the kitchen area endlessly. Sunrises over the wild meadow were beautiful & baths outside were such a treat! We spotted so many rabbits & even a ferret! Would definitely recommend The Carn for respite from city life.
05/07/2024Sally
We had a wonderful stay at the Carn! The outdoor bath was amazing, as were the views. E loved the little touches that had been left - like bubble bath, juice, coffee and fresh bread. We loved that it was in the middle of nowhere and the wildlife was amazing - we even saw deer!
01/04/2024Heather
It was peaceful. We didn't see a soul. The view was beautiful. Cabin perfectly well equipped and the welcome pack of coffee, bread and juice was a nice touch

We had a beautiful stay in the carn, it was set in such an idyllic area of Monmouthshire tucked away on the footstep of a forest. The property was beautifully designed and had ample of space for 5 people. It was very cosy and warm throughout and the outside bath was a real hit with everyone. The outdoor shower was out of use during the winter which was a bit of a shame but the bath more than made up for it. There was plenty of utensils and crockery and there was always hot water. The outdoor decking space was perfect for stargazing throughout the evenings.

A place to relax. We were all looking forward to a weekend away where we could just rest and this is exactly what we got!
03/11/2023Deb, Canopy & Stars
We stayed at The Carn following our wedding and had the most amazing, relaxing time. We spent so much time in the outside bath that we may well be permanently wrinkly now, but also loved going for walks (there's a great book of well directed walks provided), eating food we cooked in the well-equipped kitchen, and going to pubs in the nearby pretty villages to play cards. It really is a magical place - so comfortable, well-equipped and quiet.
25/09/2023Chloe
We had the most wonderful time at the Carn, it is such a thoughtfully designed and executed building. The bedrooms were roomy and lovely, the kitchen brilliantly stocked with all the utensils needed, it was water tight when the rain came down, it was warm and the decking is the best place to hang out and watch the sun rise and share food. We loved it.
22/09/2023Clara
We had a wonderful stay at the Carn. It was our first glamping experience and it didn’t disappoint. Rebecca gave lots of useful help prior to our stay and was always a phone call away whilst we were there- but equally just let us get on and enjoy ourselves. The cabin was immaculate with lots of stylish touches. The solar powered hot water was incredible and being able to enjoy an outdoor shower/bath was brilliant. It provided a great base for exploring Presteigne - but also we felt comfortable enough to spend lots of time in the cabin itself.
28/08/2023Oli
Booked this to stay for the weekend as a family. Absolutely delighted. The cabin is beautifully designed, with gorgeous attention to detail. Particularly enjoyed the outdoor bath.
14/07/2023Claire
The Carn was stunning. We stayed for three nights over the May Day bank holiday weekend. Beautiful rural location but an easy 30 minute walk into the nearest town. The Carn was well equipped and we were incredibly comfortable. Communication with the owners was great and the welcome hamper was a nice touch

this was an incredible place to stay. the website pics were amazing though the actual place even more so. it was peaceful and beautiful, as well as cosy and comfortable, and in addition fun and innovative. what a huge amount of hard work and good ideas have gone into it. we enjoyed the firepit, petanque, walks, outdoor bath, birdsong, board games, cooking, the hamper from local deli and the beautiful bedrooms. a very special stay in a lovely locale

We had the most wonderful stay at the Carn! It was so beautiful and peaceful. Our two daughters loved it too and made full use of the outside bath. The beds were really comfy and there was everything we needed in the kitchen to make lovely meals looking out over the countryside. We’ll definitely be back! Thank you so much.
27/03/2023Pippa
Wonderful snowy stay in spring. Perfect for our young family, very spacious & lots of activities. The carn had everything you could think of & more. Even though it was freezing outside it never once felt cold inside.
08/03/2023Kaitlin
We had a wonderful stay from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The craftsmanship of the Carn is something to be marvelled at. The attention to detail and extra touches were incredible. It is truly the definition of tranquility. We enjoyed outdoor baths, exploring the surrounding areas and roasting marshmallows.

Our stay was amazing start to finish. This place is heaven. How they balance nature and luxury is nothing short of genius. Everything is eco conscious and gorgeous, from the big moments to the little ones. The views and outside spaces are just beautiful too. We had a lovely time with our family here, and I'd come again with friends too. Becks was very friendly and helpful and all the info they gave was so useful and detailed. They've really thought of everything.

The Carn was an incredible place to explore the local area and further. The only difficulty was summoning the strength to leave every morning, waving goodbye to the wonderful outdoor shower, outdoor bath and the beautiful space to enjoy downtime in. Cleverly crafted, well out-fitted and relaxation-inspiring, I might just have to book again for next year.
06/10/2022Jem
What a lovely space! My sister and I stayed here with our golden retriever, and the three of us had the best weekend. We loved exploring the local area, picking up supplies in the deli and making cheese toasties on the campfire. There's plenty of space in the cabin, and Becks and Bill have clearly thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. Thank you!
08/09/2022Alice
The Carn is the perfect place for an escape from the city. We spent a fabulous long weekend there and it was exactly what we needed to relax and recharge after a busy 12 months. Perfect for dogs too, Ruby loved being off the lead. Beware of the ticks in the grass though!

Wonderful stay from start to finish. Contact with Becks the owner was very good and helpful. As soon as we walked up to the property it had the wow factor !! The outside space was amazing and we loved the building as well. Lovely welcome with fresh bread, coffee and orange juice. We loved the fact we were the only people on site, so peaceful and you really felt like you had escaped everyday life and was in your own little sanctuary.

01/06/2022Hannah
Wow- what a place. Luxury & tranquility
30/05/2022Hollie
2 nights break with our dog, looking for remoteness, good views, easy walks and also within walking distance to basic facilities (eg pub!). Enjoyed the inside and outside bath, as well as the outside shower! Piping hot water, great cooking and heating facilities. Cooked outside, even in the rain and saw plenty of wildlife from our seats, incl pheasants, rabbits, buzzards and (as mentioned in the notes) a goshawk!
25/05/2022jon
We had a wonderful stay. Fabulous weather, great walks, delicious food and toasting marshmallows around the fire. The Carn was fantastic, such great decor and amenities.
08/04/2022Emily
The Carn was absolutely beautiful and exceeded all of our expectations! It is the perfect place to stay to be able to switch off and relax whilst still being able to access amenities in just a short 5 minute drive. The Carn has become a special place to us as we got engaged here so we will most definitely be back!
01/04/2022Amy
It was perfect - a completely magical stay that we will cherish forever.
23/03/2022Becky
Wow, what a beautiful place made with love ❤️. We stayed here with our Granddaughter but mostly I choose the place as somewhere peaceful to be on my Mums one year anniversary after losing her to Covid However we made the most amazing special memories spending time together here. The Carn is truly a special place. We woke up to amazing sunrises and spent night times stargazing around the fire pit. We listened to the birds singing and played games around a log fire together . Magicial is all I can say and we definitely will be back.
23/02/2022Jackie
The cabin was perfect, everything was provided and we were even treated with local coffee and bread. The cabin was warm, cosy and intimate and was perfect for a little getaway and a place to have some tranquility. We enjoyed the local towns and walks near by too.
11/02/2022Maxine
We had such a wonderful stay at The Carn. It was the perfect place to start the new year with friends, we all loved it. Card games by the fire, outside cooking, gorgeous views and a bubble bath watching the sunrise. It was bliss! We didn't want to leave :)

The Carn is a beautiful eco build amidst the rolling Herefordshire hills. Surrounded by woodland, you can hear the calls of owls in the night and wonder at the beauty of the nature all around. Knowing that there are resident goshawks is also so exciting for avid birdwatchers! Beyond the property you have your own field, perfect for dogs to stretch their legs and run free (there are fences) whilst you take in the views! Atop a nearby hill in the mist we saw a beautiful view of the nearby Stapleton Castle ruins. As our visit was a December one the cosy interior, full of sheepskin rugs and thick warm blankets, along with the roaring fireplace made for a perfect calming retreat, however the Carn would also be wonderful in the the warmer seasons, when the doors to the decking can be opened up to soak in the summer sun. You can cook outdoors over the firepit and sit and gaze at the stars on a clear night. Our favourite feature of the property was the outdoor bath, deep and cosy, allowing us a sense of luxury whilst out in nature, listening to the melody of birdsong in the early morning whilst covered in warm bubbles & relaxing by the flicker of candle light and stars at night.
22/12/2021Natalie
This place is a true gem. The cabin is beautiful, so much thought has gone into the craft and design. Despite the rain, we braved the weather for local walks and browsed the shops and deli in prestige, we stepped back in time with a very old school pub lunch in the Radnorshire Arms, where the grub wasn't posh but the company was brilliant! We spent evenings, lounging in front of the fire reading our books, or soaking in the very warm alfresco bath (don't chicken out it's amazing!) the perfect place for our pup Molly, who could play in the open field whilst we sat undercover on the deck. The perfect place for a cosy winter getaway, book this place, you won't regret it!
10/12/2021Tessa
We have stayed in many small and unique places, all over the world, but we honestly thought 'The Carn' was one of the best! It was warm (we stayed in November) thoughtfully laid out, tasteful, simple interior decor, a spacious outdoor veranda with an outdoor bath overlooking at beautiful valley. The owners provided lots of great small touches, like a fresh loaf of local bread, a bag of ground coffee and local apple juice, bathrobes to use, all the kitchen utensils you might need, including sharp knives! We loved that they provided eco products for the kitchen and bathroom, which they encourage you to use. The Carn is a delight, and we will book again for sure.

Myself, partner and two friends spent a wonderful 3 nights at The Carn. The cabin is beautifully presented with the layout and interior clearly well planned and executed. There is such a cosy, earthy feel throughout the cabin with use of natural materials and furnishings. We loved that the break could be as wild/home comforty as you like with both indoor and outdoor cooking or bathing facilities. I also loved how the outdoor area is an extension to the indoor space with protection from bad weather meaning you can still make the most of outdoors. The cabin is close enough to access nearby attractions but rural enough to give you the disconnection to relax and switch off. The local goodies provided on arrival were also very well received! If I had to critique, I would say the indoor bathroom set up lacks privacy which could be difficult if you lacked comfortability with those you are staying with. However I appreciate changing this would affect the feel and design of the cabin.

Our stay at The Carn was absolutely wonderful. The setting and cabin are outstanding… from the moment you walk in to the lovely welcome gifts, to the small details throughout - the hosts have thought of everything. So all you have to do is relax, and enjoy it! We managed to get a babysitter last minute for our toddler and while she would have loved it here, we were so glad to have a place like The Carn to completely unwind - we hardly ever left! 5 star rustic luxury all round - we will definitely be back.

The owners have clearly taken alot of time and effort in getting the cabin perfect - it is completely off grid, but you wouldn't know. It was warm, comfortable and we felt very relaxed throughout. The place was incredible! Well furnished and the views were amazing. There was plenty of space to move around in and the hosts left plenty of little things for us such as fresh ground local coffee, jam and bread etc. The whole place was immaculate and very well built I would definitely stay again.

We had the best 3 nights staying at The Carn. We didn’t end up leaving the cabin during our stay at all as we absolutely loved it there. The views were stunning and it was incredibly peaceful. Didn’t see or hear anyone else the whole time we were there.

We had a wonderful stay at the Carn! The outdoor bath was amazing, as were the views. E loved the little touches that had been left - like bubble bath, juice, coffee and fresh bread. We loved that it was in the middle of nowhere and the wildlife was amazing - we even saw deer!

Booked this to stay for the weekend as a family. Absolutely delighted. The cabin is beautifully designed, with gorgeous attention to detail. Particularly enjoyed the outdoor bath.

Wonderful snowy stay in spring. Perfect for our young family, very spacious & lots of activities. The carn had everything you could think of & more. Even though it was freezing outside it never once felt cold inside.

My husband and I stayed here with another couple and had SUCH a wonderful time. It was so peaceful and restful and felt like such a gift to spend a long weekend away from London in the quiet of the Carn. We so appreciated the considerate communication from Becks and the thoughtful welcome goodies! Would thoroughly recommend it as a place to go and retreat in!

We had a wonderful stay at The Carn. The interior design is stunning with amazing craftsmanship throughout. We went for amazing walks right from the door, cozy nights around the fire and the outside bath was amazing. The Carn has all the essentials and really appreciated the welcome goodies on arrival.

Thank you!

The Carn was absolutely beautiful and exceeded all of our expectations! It is the perfect place to stay to be able to switch off and relax whilst still being able to access amenities in just a short 5 minute drive. The Carn has become a special place to us as we got engaged here so we will most definitely be back!

The cabin was perfect, everything was provided and we were even treated with local coffee and bread. The cabin was warm, cosy and intimate and was perfect for a little getaway and a place to have some tranquility. We enjoyed the local towns and walks near by too.
